INTERVIEW GUIDELINES
We will try to arrange for you to have an initial chat on the phone with any candidates that suit your criteria. This will enable you to decide whether you are happy to interview her and to arrange a time to suit you both.
You will probably want to introduce your children to the Nanny, although it may be a good idea to have somebody else looking after them so that you can concentrate on the interview. If you think they are a possible employee, you can then bring the children in so that you can see how they react towards each other.
Here are some points you may like to go over with candidates:
- Qualifications
- What did they enjoy on their course
- Their last position – what they liked / disliked about it
- Reason for leaving
- When they can start
- Have they kept in touch with previous families
- How long they are looking to stay in next position
- Why they became a nanny
- Activities they would suggest for your children
- Views on television for children
- Views on discipline
- Views on routine
- Coping in an emergency
- Food – knowledge of nutrition
- Driving history
- Nanny friends
- Medical history
- What they like to do when not working
- Expected salary
- Are they flexible
- Duties – including babysitting
If you are happy with the interview and feel you would be comfortable with this person becoming an important part of your children's life, you may want to consider a second, less formal interview.
This is the time to be more specific about duties, house rules, holidays, sick pay, start-date, salary, etc. It is also a chance to introduce them to your husband/wife/partner/grandparent etc.
If you feel that the interview was successful and you are seriously considering the candidate for the position please contact us as soon as possible.
