QUALIFICATIONS

Below is a guide to the various qualifications that nannies may hold.

NNEB (DCE)

An NNEB diploma in nursery nursing indicates the holder undertook a full time 2-year course covering the ages of 0-7. This is probably the most widely recognised qualification and gives student's hands on experience in addition to the academic course which covers the physical, social, educational, intellectual and emotional needs of different ages.
Other areas of study include health and hygiene, play and first aid.

CACHE

In 1994, the NNEB merged with the Council for Early Years Awards, and formed CACHE.

The Cache mission statement reads:

"The Council will strive throughout its work to enable professional workers in Childcare and Education to gain access to training and assessment in order that they provide the highest quality service to children and families. The council will also act as a focus for National Standards in Childrens Care and Education".

CACHE designs courses and qualifications in the care and education of children and young people.

Cache offers the following courses:

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) in Childcare & Education.

The Certificate in Childcare Education (CCE) l year course.

The Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB) 2yr full time course.

Diploma in Childcare & Education (ADCE) l year full time course.

You can take them in schools, colleges and training centres throughout the UK.

BTEC

The BTEC diploma in Child Studies (Nursery Nursing) is a full time two-year course, and thus distinguishable from the BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies which is a lower level one-year part time course offered to mature candidates.
The BTEC diploma is well run although it has a slight emphasis on the academic, as opposed to the practical side.

NAMCW

The National Association of Maternal & Childcare Welfare was a two year course similar to the NNEB but covered all ages up to teenagers.
